Rules for ATM9

Restrictions

General Notes

  • Chop down redwood trees or giant oak trees using treecapitator.
  • Break large chests filled with items, thus dropping them all at the exact same time.
  • Spam-mining using mining tools (eg. Infinity Drill, Terra Shatterer, Bound Pickaxe, Mining laser).
  • Using Hoppers or stacking Hoppers on top of each other.
  • Vertically stacking your base. Instead spread your base out horizontally over multiple chunks.
  • Leaving behind dropped items and XP orbs when mining - Instead use a magnet (eg. Coin of Fortune, Void Satchel).
  • Leaving behind dropped items and XP orbs in mob grinders. Instead use a Vacuum Chest or Vacuum Hopper.
  • Using excessive amounts of Cyclic Assemblers (Thermal Expansion), Crafters (Ender IO), Auto Workbenches or Auto Crafting Benches or Mechanical Crafters. If you really must use them, do not run them 24/7, this may have severe adverse effects on server performance. Use Molecular Assemblers in conjunction with Applied Energistics Crafting processors for batch/bulk autocrafting;
  • Using many transfer nodes with stacks of stack/speed upgrades.
  • Using more than a single Tank from OpenBlocks - Instead use Drums or Black Hole Tanks.

Water Production

Only use a Sink (Cooking for Blockheads) to produce water. This is a fast and infinite source of water. Do not use anything else for this purpose!

Nesting Containers

What are containers?

Any Bags, Backpacks, Pouches, Satchels, Strongboxes, Shulkerboxes, ME Storage Cells or similar items capable of storing items, are considered containers.

What happens if you do?

When too many items with all of their metadata are nested in containers, that single container exceeds the NBT stringsize limit of data one player inventory slot can hold, and it will corrupt your player data. It can also have very adverse effects on server performance when trying to open or load said container.

Cable Management

Keep runs short, and avoid using hundreds or thousands of pipes, tubes, cables, ducts or wires (anything transferring anything) when wireless alternatives exist. Make proper use of Ender Chests (EnderStorage), Ender Tanks (EnderStorage), Quantum Entangloporters (Mekanism), Quantum Bridges (Applied Energistics 2) and Dimensional Transceivers (Ender IO).

  • Mekanism Machines can push items, liquids and gases to an adjacent machine or container without needing pipes or tubes in most cases.
  • Thermal Expansion Machines can pull and push items from and to adjacent inventories without needing ducts.
  • Ender IO Machines can push and pull items and liquids to and from adjacent inventories without needing conduits.

Bad

Good

Don't form 2D or 3D grids where cables, pipes or tubes of any kind are all interconnected. Use a Configurator (Mekanism) or Cresent Hammer (Thermal Foundation) to separate connecting cables, pipes or tubes and form strips instead of grids.

Crop Farms

This pertains to all kinds of vegetables, fruits, berries, seeds, fibers, trees, bushes or any other crop from, but not limited to Minecraft crops, Pam's Harvestcraft, GrowthCraft, Forestry and Mystical Agriculture

Rules
  • You're limited to 12 separate chunks with a maximum of 6 layers of soil with crops.

Animal Farms

This applies to land plots with passive and active animal breeding and/or stocking where animals are kept alive.

Rules
  • Per 1 chunk you may hold a maximum of 20 animals;
  • In total you may own up to a maximum of 100 animals (5 chunks with 20 animals per chunk).
  • A chunk containing an animal farm or a large collection of animals may not also contain a mob grinder.
  • Animals must be given enough room to move freely, stacked entities that push each other constantly can cause lag.

Mob Grinders

What is a mob grinder?

This is a setup that spawns and kills animals and/or hostile monsters and uses methods such as but not limited to Monster Spawners (Minecraft), Powered Spawners (Ender IO), Mob Duplicators (Industrial Foregoing) or magical ways of spawning monsters, and uses any source or form of damage to kill the mobs.

Rules
  • Per team (even if you play alone) you may own no more than 24 mob spawners of any kind.
  • Mob Spawners must be placed down in no more than 2 separate chunks, the sole exception is the use of spawners for Blood Magic rituals. The total limit of 24 spawners still applies
  • Mob grinders must be built within the borders of a chunk, use F9 to enable chunk borders.
  • Mob Spawners in a mob grinder setup must an XP vacuum and Vacuum chest (or alternative) to pick up XP orb and item overflow.
  • Mob Spawners must have an on/off switch with redstone using an easily-accessible lever.

Allowed configurations: Up to 24 spawners across no more than 2 chunks

Machines

Be reasonable, build what you need and dismantle what you no longer need. If you're an oldschool player and you do something according to the old ways with redstone, pistons, droppers, dispensers, observers or flowing water, be aware that there may be a much cleaner modded solution. Ask your fellow players on Discord!

Rules
  • Don't build large amounts of the same machine just to speed up production or processing. Let 2 machines process a batch of items over a timespan of 8 minutes instead of building 16 machines to do the same job in just 1 minute.
  • Dismantle old machines you no longer need in favour of new, high-tier machines.

Laser Drills (Industrial Foregoing)

  • Max of 72 per team

Energizing Rods (Powah)

  • Max of 18 per team

Simulation Chambers (Hostile Neural Networks)

  • Max of 64 per team

Loot Fabricators (Hostile Neural Networks)

  • Max of 16 per team

Phytogenic Insolators (Industrial Foregoing)

  • Max of 64 per team when using 32 Oak Beehives + 32 Oak Expansion Boxes
  • Max of 32 per team when using 64 Oak Beehives + 64 Oak Expansion Boxes

Productive Bees (Industrial Foregoing)

  • Max of 32 Oak Beehives + 32 Oak Expansion Boxes per team when using 64 Phytogenic Insolators
  • Max of 64 Oak Beehives + 64 Oak Expansion Boxes per team when using 32 Phytogenic Insolators

Electric Pumps (Mekanism)

  • Max of 2 per team

Solar Neutron Activators (Mekanism)

  • Max of 6 per team

Hopper Botany Pots (BotanyPots)

  • Max of 64 per team and a max of 32 per chunk

Multiblock Structures

Avoid building a multiblock structures that use multiple chunks or cross chunk borders; Always confine the structure within a chunk, do not cross chunk borders. Use F9 to enable visual chunk borders that help you.
Rules

Power Generation

Rules
  • Adjust your power production to match your actual needs. Avoid (over)producing that which you don't need.
  • Prioritise power storage over power production by investing in an Induction Matrix (Mekanism).
  • Share power with teammates, friends, and strangers if it means fewer players will persue the construction of power generation which increases lag.
  • Dismantle/remove old ways of generating power in favour of your best method.
  • Some power generation methods may be crafted and built temporarily for the purpose of completing a quest but must be removed again afterwards.

Fusion Reactor (Mekanism)

Rules on Tile Entities

Ticking TileEntities (also known as a block entity) are a major contributor to lag. These essentially store additional information and are found in/embedded in chests, dispensers, droppers, hoppers, barrels, shulker boxes, beacons, spawners, pistons, enchanting tables, jukeboxes, note blocks, sensors, beds, cauldrons, obviously all types of machinery, and more notably in this modpack in:

  • Forge Microblocks
  • Chisel & Bits blocks
  • Painted blocks (EnderIO)
  • Framed blocks (Blockcraftery)
  • Lamps and blocks emitting light (except for vanilla glowstone)
  • Starfield Glass (Thaumcraft)
  • Ceramic Blocks (Binnie's Botany)
  • Sky Blocks and inverted Sky Blocks (OpenBlocks)
  • Seared blocks & Seared Bricks (Tinkers' Construct Smeltery)

The number of such blocks, often used decoratively and aesthetically must be limited. Some of you have built whole walls and floors using these blocks, turning their base into a more severe lag source with just walls, floors and ceilings than those who have a lot of machines!

There is no way to put specific numbers on this, but these blocks must not be used excessively. We are able to detect them and we will ask players to fix this when we do find out, but we expect you all to reduce the number of these blocks used in your builds on your own as well.
